Mobile devices have revolutionised the way the world does business, allowing executives access to company data any time, any place. Unfortunately, due to the maturity of some devices, the inadequate security can allow access to the unauthorised as well.
For organisations who literally have thousands of employees with company Blackberries, iPhones and similar devices, keeping track of who is using them and for what is a huge problem.
But it’s why a US software company exists to overcome, and as part of a global expansion its new subsidiary, Airwatch UK Ltd, has just opened in Milton Keynes.
The company has taken offices at Newton Court, Knowlhill, and director of the agents Douglas Duff, Jonathan Whittle says: “Airwatch were seeking contemporary, visually appealing premises where they could meet customers and establish their market presence. Newton Court, with 2,685 sq ft over two floors, also gives the company the potential for growth.”
Managing Director Ian Evans says growth is at the top of the agenda; he expects business turnover to be £1 million in the first year and the four start-up staff should have grown to 30 by the end of 2011.
“The UK company was only set up on April 1 so we are in that exciting, challenging start-up phase. We are currently recruiting sales and technical consultants with an IT background and in 18 months I expect to have 100 plus people on board,” he says.
Airwatch provides management for all types of mobile devices and can tailor software to individual companies’ requirements. An enrolment link is sent to every user and their device id provisioned to them, email, network setting and data or files. The software can report failure to implement updates, unauthorised use or other issues as required.
“But it’s less about security and more about management really” says Ian Evans. “Some companies have 90,000 Smart Phones accessing email; you have got to be able to wipe corporate data off these but it’s equally important to be able to send information, like an expenses policy perhaps, and receive confirmation that it has been read.”
Ian estimates that there are some 30 companies providing this sort of service worldwide but Airwatch parent company is independently rated as a leader by Gartner, the software industry analysts.
